On the day my 25 year-old sister Heather, learned that she had breast cancer, I made a promise to her that I would not stop fighting until there was a cure for breast cancer. Heather passed away 17 months later. That was almost 11 years ago. Since then, I have been passionately involved in the Komen Global Race for the Cure, as captain of a team named for my sister in order to give meaning to Heather's death. Read more about Team Heather
On March 2, 2011, Susan G. Komen™ announced a new $4.5 million investment in breast health education and outreach programs – the largest single-year investment in the history of the local event.
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Advocacy Alliance
is a sister organization to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and the voice
for 2.5 million breast cancer survivors and the people who love them.
With the help of nearly 300,000 online advocates and Komen's network of
more than 120 domestic affiliates, we advocate for change on Capitol
Hill and in state legislatures. The Komen Advocacy Alliance engages
policymakers and leaders at all levels of government to advocate for an
increased investment in cancer research and greater access to breast
health services.
