Top 5 Fundraising Tips
1. Know your reason for participating in and fundraising for the Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure®. To honor or support a friend or loved one. To make a difference in the movement to end breast cancer forever. Whatever it is, when you provide your donors with a personal reason why, they will be more convinced to give.
2. ASK! Never miss an opportunity, whether you're at work, school, a PTA meeting or any social gathering. Let everyone know that you are participating in the Komen Global Race for the Cure.
3. Send fundraising emails. By far this is the fastest way to gather donations from potential donors. Use one of sample messages to send through your personal email account or through your Participant Center.
4. Use the Participant Center. In your Participant Center, you have your very own Personal Page with a specific URL (a "www" address). People can donate to you directly from this Personal Page. You can also send email from the email center using our sample messages. For many who rely on their computers and smart phones to stay connected, it's the best way to fundraise!
5. Facebook and Social Media. Advertise your participation in the Komen Global Race for the Cure. If you use Twitter, tweet your Personal Page URL in the Participant Center and ask your friends to donate. Use Social Media to turn any gathering into a fundraising party. Movie Party. Barbecue. Bowling. Bingo. Bake Sale. Pink Martinis. Car Wash. The sky's the limit. Put the "fun" back in fundraising!

On the day my 25 year-old sister Heather, learned that she had breast cancer, I made a promise to her that I would not stop fighting until there was a cure for breast cancer. Heather passed away 17 months later. That was almost 11 years ago. Since then, I have been passionately involved in the Komen Global Race for the Cure, as captain of a team named for my sister in order to give meaning to Heather's death.
