From a Participant
This year, I'm making a big impact on the fight to end breast cancer by participating in the Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure®.
Tens of thousands of people will gather on the National Mall on June 5 to take a stand and prove that individuals have the power to change the world.
Without the cures, an estimated 25 million women around the world will be diagnosed with breast cancer – and 10 million could die over the next 25 years. That's why I'm joining the fight. I hope that you'll support me.
I've set my personal goal at $125. So I need your help. You can give online at GlobalRacefortheCure.org.
[Insert your personal connection with the cause]
Up to 75 percent of the Komen Global Race’s net income stays in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area to fund local screening, treatment and education programs for the medically underserved. The remaining dollars support the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Global Promise Fund, a program which is dedicated to reaching underserved people in areas where breast cancer mortality rates are the highest.
Every dollar makes a difference: --$100 could be used to provide one mammogram --$250 could be used to cover five clinical breast exams --$500 could be used to provide five diagnostic ultrasounds --$1000 could be used to provide 10 mammograms
Go to http://globalrace.info-komen.org/site/PageServer?pagename=hq_gr_participant_fundraising_video_2010 to view a short, inspiring video about the Komen Global Race.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!
Sincerely,
[Name]
P.S. Ask your employer if they will double your donation through a matching gift program!
From a Sleep In for the Cure® participant
Dear [Your family member’s/friend’s name],
In June, tens of thousands of people will be running and walking on the National Mall in Washington, DC, to take an active role in global fight to end breast cancer as part of the Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure®.
I’m doing my part, too, although it’s not quite so physically active. I’m registered as a Sleep In for the Cure® participant!
I may be snoozing on Race Day, but I still plan on making as much of an impact as possible by fundraising . . . and YOU can join me by donating! Together we can help put an end to breast cancer.
Please help me reach my fundraising goal of [enter goal here] by going to GlobalRacefortheCure.org. Click on “Donate” and then search for my name and make a donation directly to my personal fundraising account. It only takes a few minutes.

Last year in the 2009 Komen Global Race, 45,000 men, women, and children ran, walked, and yes, slept-in, and in the process, raised $3.8 million. We’re trying to surpass that goal in 2010.
Thank you, in advance, for your support.

Follow-up Letter
I wanted to follow-up on the e-mail I sent you earlier about my participation in the Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure®. I've been spending the past few weeks preparing for the event and have really made a lot of progress. So far I've raised [$amount] – only [$] to go! I can hardly wait to join the tens of thousands of other women and men who are working together to make a big impact on the global movement to end breast cancer forever.
There is still time for you to support my efforts with a donation. Each year, up to 75 percent of the Komen Global Race’s net income stays in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area to fund local screening, treatment and education programs for the medically underserved. The remaining dollars support the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Global Promise Fund, which is dedicated to reaching underserved people in areas where breast cancer mortality rates are the highest.

Matching Gift Reminder
Did you know that matching gifts could double the value of your donation?
Many companies (both large and small) offer employee matching gift programs. This means that when an employee makes a donation to a non-profit organization, the corporation will "match" that donation with an equal (or greater) amount to the same group. You could double the impact of their donation by soliciting a matching gift from your employer.
Here are the steps in the matching gift process:
Step One: Confirm that the company you are applying with will match for Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure. Check the list of potential matching gift companies (GlobalRacefortheCure.org > Donate > Matching Gifts) or contact the company directly. Our 501(c)(3) number is 75-1835298.
Step Two: Make a donation (either online or via mail) and then initiate the matching gift process with your company. Most matching gift companies have either a paper matching gift process or an online matching gift process. Please read the instructions below for the appropriate process.
Paper Matching Gifts Process: If a matching gift company has a paper matching gift process then the donor must obtain a matching gift form from the matching gift company and complete the donor section. It is very important that the donor designates Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure as the recipient of the matching gift. The address listed in the company's database for the Komen Global Race for the Cure should be: Global Race for the Cure, 205 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 2640, Chicago, IL 60601. Please do not choose Susan G. Komen for the Cure as the designated organization for any matching gifts going to the Komen Global Race for the Cure. These matching gifts will not be routed to the Komen Global Race for the Cure.
After the donor completes the donor section of the paper matching gift form, the donor gives the matching gift form along with their Komen Global Race for the Cure donation receipt to the participant. Please proceed to Step Three.
Online Matching Gifts Process: If a matching gift company has an online matching gift process then the donor must complete the matching gift process through the matching gift company's database. It is very important that the donor designates the Komen Global Race for the Cure as the recipient of the matching gift. Please do not choose Susan G. Komen for the Cure as the designated organization for any matching gifts going to the Komen Global Race for the Cure. These matching gifts will not be routed to the Komen Global Race for the Cure.
Important note for donors processing matching gift forms online: If the matching company has an online matching gifts process, the donor must note the name of the participant s/he is supporting. There is typically a line titled "gift designation," "purpose section" or "notes" on the online matching gift form where this information can be added. Adding this information is required for the appropriate participant to receive credit for the matching gift.
If the online matching gift is processed using EasyMatch, the matching company will forward the matching gift form to the Komen Global Race for the Cure directly and you can skip Step Three. If the online matching gift is processed using CyberGrants, the donor must print and mail the form to the Komen Global Race for the Cure. For all other types of online matching gift processes, please contact the matching company for next steps.
Step Three: The participant completes the Matching Gift Checklist and sends the completed checklist along with the matching gift form obtained from the donor to:
Komen Global Race for the Cure 205 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 2640 Chicago, IL 60601
Step Four: It can take 4-6 weeks for the Komen Global Race for the Cure to process the matching gift form.
